IMP dehydrogenase (IMPDH)

1 reactions · 1 pathways

What it does, reaction by reaction

Purine De Novo Synthesis (IMP synthesis through to AMP/GMP) Nucleotide Metabolism · Cytosol

step 14 Irreversible/directional

IMP → xanthosine monophosphate (XMP)

Converts IMP into Xanthosine monophosphate (XMP)

Notes

IMP dehydrogenase (IMPDH) catalyzes IMP + NAD+ + H2O → XMP + NADH + H+. This oxidation establishes the 2-keto group needed for subsequent amination and is the committed, regulatory step of the GMP branch.

What accelerates and inhibits it

Regulation is pathway-specific, so each context is listed separately

1 entries

Purine De Novo Synthesis (IMP synthesis through to AMP/GMP)

Listed there as: IMP dehydrogenase

Accelerated by

IMP; increased AMP demand can favor GMP synthesis through reciprocal branch control

Inhibited by

GMP and GDP

Hormonal control

Increased expression accompanies lymphocyte activation and cell proliferation; no major direct endocrine allosteric control.
