OMP decarboxylase (UMP synthase domain 2)

1 reactions · 1 pathways

Clinical / pharmacological. Hereditary orotic aciduria (second UMP synthase domain)

What it does, reaction by reaction

Pyrimidine De Novo Synthesis (through to UMP, then CTP/dTMP) Nucleotide Metabolism · Cytosol (one mitochondrial step)

step 6 Irreversible/directional

OMP → UMP

Converts Orotidine 5'-monophosphate (OMP) into UMP

Notes

OMP decarboxylase, the second UMP synthase activity, catalyzes OMP → UMP + CO2. This is one of the most proficient known enzymatic decarboxylations and commits the incorporated ribose nucleotide to the uracil nucleotide pool.
